Over the last seven units, you’ve learned about the state of AI technology, its potential benefits and possible risks, policy frameworks to approach AI, the state of global AI governance, and specific proposals to govern AI. In this unit, you’ll brainstorm ideas for your project, explore career pathways in AI governance, and think about ways you can contribute.

AI Governance is a new and exciting field, but we think many of the pathways are similar to those of traditional governance roles. Some options include working on policy directly in government, advocating for policies on behalf of organizations as a lobbyist, researching AI policy at a think tank, industry, or academia, or working on corporate AI policies at major companies.

Whether you are at the beginning of your career, planning a pivot, or looking to contribute from your current role, this unit will help you launch your next steps.

By the end of the unit, you should be able to:
\- Evaluate relevant AI governance career opportunities
\- Explain the role of policy entrepreneurs in the policymaking process
\- Get started on your project


Your project is an opportunity for you to make an impact, change your career trajectory, and contribute to governing advanced AI. 
In this exercise, you’ll use the **brainstorming document** found [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1whlVlLJwL7A33W-9cpmux81aY6FGo0dcz_EdN0uiYMo/copy) (or use the one you might have already made) to **generate ideas**. Make a copy of the document and fill it out. 
When you’re done, make the google doc [shareable](https://support.google.com/docs/answer/2494822?hl=en-GB&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop#zippy=%2Cshare-a-file-publicly), share it with your facilitator and **paste the link** in the box below.


Brainstorm project ideas

How do you hope to contribute to AI Governance over the next 1-2 years?

During this course, you've learned a lot about AI governance, and you should now have a sense of the opportunities that are available. How might you factor this into your own big-picture plan?

_This exercise should take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete (bullet points/scrappy notes are encouraged!). _

Some questions you might want to answer in your response include:
- Which aspects of AI governance do you feel most compelled to address, and why are they critical?
- How could your special skills and background help solve AI governance problems?
- Would you do more good by working full-time on AI governance or by bringing it into your current job?
- How might you be able to contribute outside of your professional life? 
- What blockers stand between you and making meaningful contributions to AI governance, and how will you overcome them?
- What two things will you do in the next month to start making a difference?
- Where will you be 1 year from today if everything goes according to plan? What real change do you want to have made in AI governance by this time next year? Be as _concrete_ as you can be! Imagine wild success.  
- Which specific connections, resources, or opportunities would most amplify your effectiveness in this space?
