Who we are

We’re a non-profit that runs courses on some of the world’s most pressing problems. We’re looking for expert judges to review projects submitted as part of our AI alignment course. You can see example projects on our AI Safety Fundamentals website.

We currently run the world’s largest courses on AI Safety, with a graduate community of over 2,000 individuals working in all the major AI companies, top universities and governments. The course is widely regarded as the go-to location to learn about AI Alignment, and the AI Safety Fundamentals website has over 10,000 unique visitors each month.

What you’ll do

Judges will:

You’ll work in the week of 30th September – 6th October 2024. Due to late submissions there may be the possibility of a little extra work after this time.

We expect there to be at least 30 hours of work in total, which will be distributed across the judges.

Location and compensation

Location: Fully remote. We accept applications from anywhere in the world.

Compensation: £30/hour. You will be hired as a contractor and responsible for your own taxes. In the UK this is usually tax-free unless you earn more than £1,000 from self-employment per tax year (guidance).

Dates: 30th September – 6th October 2024.

Times: Flexible. You will be given access to an online interface and can do the work at whenever suits you. You are expected to do a minimum of 5 hours (3 hours if you are already a course facilitator with us), although being able to do more hours is preferred.

About you

We are looking for someone who is keen to support budding researchers get excited about going to work in AI alignment research.

To apply for this role, you must:

  • Understand core AI safety concepts. For example, you might have previously conducted AI safety research or facilitated our alignment course.
  • Be able to fairly evaluate projects in a reasonable time.
  • Be able to give high-quality, actionable feedback to inspire and guide students on their next steps.
  • Be fluent in English and be able to use basic IT such as Google Docs and Slack.

You might be particularly good for this role if you:

  • Are currently facilitating a BlueDot Impact course
  • Have previous experience evaluating or judging competition entries or research proposals

Apply for this role

The application process consists of three stages:

  • Stage 1: Initial application (<10 minutes).
  • Stage 2: Paid work sample (20 mins).

The work sample will involve you judging and providing feedback on a sample submission that we provide. If we ask you to do this, we will pay you £10 for the time you spend on this.

If you have previously facilitated with us, you can provide a briefer initial application. We may also be able to skip the work sample stage.
